End of tenancy cleaning : how much does it cost

Temps de lecture : 6 minutes environ

An end of tenancy cleaning is required when a tenant moves out of a rented apartment. Deep cleaning is something that some do not often do when they live in rent, and it is difficult to leave it to last.

Cleaning is the responsibility of the tenant. This responsibility dictates that when you return the keys to the owner, the property will be as clean as when you first moved in. At the end of your lease, if everything meets the landlord’s standards, you will receive your rental deposit back. If you’ve been a responsible, clean, and a thoughtful renter, chances are your home is already very close to being ready for the final checklist. In such a case, you only need to do a final sweep before handing over the property.

Your owner may request a hygiene standard equal to that documented in the inventory agreement. You must complete a house cleaning checklist or inventory of all household items and sign both parts.

Is end of tenancy cleaning mandatory in the UK?

The truth is that it is mandatory, but there is no need to hire a professional. What happens is that many times we forget to clean every corner, and we just do a superficial cleansing of space. And that’s why many prefer that an expert performs this last cleaning to ensure that everything will be impeccable when the landlord inspects the house. Likewise in the United Kingdom, if the house, apartment or space that is rented does not meet expectations, the deposit will not be refunded in full.

This is why so many people hire cleaning companies. The price of what you will pay for an end of tenancy cleaning is much more acceptable than losing your entire deposit.

How much does end of tenancy clean cost in the UK ?

In the UK, the cost of end-of-lease cleaning usually ranges from £100 to £250. However, the price will depend on the size of the property, along with the amount of cleaning to be done. For instance, a one-bedroom apartment can only cost £100 to clean, whereas a four-bedroom house could cost £250.

Good news ! With Wecasa, an end of tenancy cleaning starts at just £15.90/h. The total cost of your end of tenancy clean will depend on the amount of time it takes to clean your property.

Next, you’re probably asking: How clean is clean? And what exactly will my landlord be looking for?

What does end of tenancy cleaning should include ?

You need to clean your place from top to bottom. It is difficult to find the ideal checklist of all chores before an end-of tenancy clean, and it depends a lot on how you keep your house clean. You have to check your list continuously to see that you haven’t left anything undone.

You will need to clean, at a minimum, the following items, if you want to pass the final inspection:

The Kitchen

Make sure that the kitchen is spotless. This means cleaning the oven, stove top and the microwave for example. Don’t forget to empty out all cabinets and drawers, and clean them as well. You’ll want to remove all crumbs and deposits, clean inside and out, and wipe thoroughly with a dry cloth. After cleaning the refrigerator, if it is empty, turn it off at the mains and leave the door open to prevent mold.

Ps: Be sure to clean the back of most appliances with a dry cloth.

The bathroom

The bathroom is another area that needs to be sparkling clean. Start by scrubbing the toilet, shower, and sink. Then move on to cleaning the tile, mirrors, and floors and other fixtures. Then, you have to make sure drains and plug holes are clear and make sure water runs off quickly. All metal surfaces, including faucets, shower stalls, drain grates should be cleaned for mildew and soap. If the shower head is blocked, it should be soaked in vinegar overnight. Hopefully, it will be cleared up and working properly the next day.

The living room and bedrooms

In the living room and bedrooms, you often find ample decorations and bookshelves. In these areas, you’ll want to focus on vacuuming carpets and mopping hard floors. This room is mostly about dusting and vacuuming everything to perfection. Also, dust all surfaces, including blinds, windowsills, and ceiling fans. Be sure to empty out all closets, dressers, and cabinets. And don’t forget to clean under the bed! As easy as it sounds, the living room is time-consuming.
