Daily cleaning of the tiles
Tiles are a very easy surface to clean ! And for good reason: the tiling does not fear water or the use of cleaning products. It is therefore easier to clean tiles than to clean wood !
The first thing you are encouraged to do when cleaning a tiled floor is to vacuum or sweep whenever you can. Every day, every three days … You decide, it’s your rules of the game! This is especially true if you have tiled floors in your kitchen or dining room. We know that crumbs and dirt arrive very quickly.
Occasionally, as soon as you notice a stain, the wiping the area with a sponge is advised. A microfiber sponge and a little washing up liquid will do the trick!
Clean the tiles with a mop without leaving any traces
Then, once a week, you can do more cleaning . This involves mopping up to remove any stains that may have formed on the tiles.
Opt for a mop with a very fine grain or a microfiber mop , very practical. Remember that the mop should always be wet enough, but not dripping! No need to use gallons of water! Otherwise you risk leaving traces.
Remember to rinse the mop well between each washing of the floor. It is also advisable to put it in the washing machine to eliminate bacteria.
What products should I use to wash a tile?
Regarding the products to use to wash your floor … There are many! You can also use them to wash your kitchen worktop or bathroom.
Needless to say, we always have a preference for natural cleaning products . Even when cleaning carpet , we still prefer to go the natural chemical method!
Here are our favorite products for washing tiles:
Marseille soap
- Pour a little Marseille soap in a bucket of hot water
- Add a little lemon juice . The latter brings a good smell and especially its strong disinfecting power.
- Then mop and rinse.
Black soap
Black soap is a very effective and degreasing product. You just need to place two tablespoons of black soap in a basin of hot or lukewarm water. Then you will come and scrub the tiled floor with a suitable broom. Do not forget to rinse with clean water to avoid the appearance of marks on your shiny tiles.
Potato cooking water
Last product or rather grandmother’s tip: the cooking water from the potatoes is good for your soil!
The starch in potatoes has surprisingly great cleaning properties. It will degrease the floor of your kitchen or make the colors of your tiles shine.
Use the still hot water then take your broom or your mop. Then be sure to rinse the floor well.
How to clean very dirty tiles?
Even if you take care of your floor on a daily basis, the tiles can sometimes lose their beauty! A return from a walk in the city, an evening with friends… It does not take much to start to see traces of mud or food appear. In these cases precisely, we also have the perfect products to use for cleaning the tiles!
White vinegar
Did you know, white vinegar is a valuable ingredient for cleaning the house! It will remove all the stains, even the most stubborn and will make the floor shine! Here’s how :
- In a basin of hot water, add 100 ml of white vinegar
- Clean the floor with a mop, cloth or microfiber broom
- If the smell of vinegar bothers you, you can mop a second time with clean or soapy water.
- Note that if you add a few drops of lemon to the water, you can also diffuse a nice, fresh smell on the ground!
Soda crystals
If your tiles are very dirty , soda crystals can work a miracle! They are useful at home to clean, stain or degrease a surface. If you don’t have one, baking soda can also do the trick.
In a bucket of hot water, pour a coffee cup of soda crystals. Mix well. You can then mop with this water mixture. Your floor is like new, isn’t it?
