What Products to Use to Clean a Yellowed Shower Tray?

Cleaning the bathroom is no small task – limescale, mould, and soap scum love to linger in tile joints! For a pristine shower tray, you’ll need:

  • Lemon juice
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Washing-up liquid
  • A sponge
  • A cleaning cloth
  • A spray bottle
  • An old towel
  • An empty bottle

How to Clean a Yellowed Shower Tray Step by Step?

Let’s tackle those yellow stains head-on. First, we’ll banish soap scum, then move on to limescale, and finish with rust stains. With these three steps, your shower tray will be gleaming in no time.

Remove Soap Scum

Follow these steps to tackle soap scum:

  1. Heat 100 ml of white vinegar in the microwave for a minute.
  2. Pour the warm vinegar into a spray bottle.
  3. Add 100 ml of washing-up liquid.
  4. Shake the bottle to mix the vinegar and washing-up liquid.
  5. Ventilate your bathroom.
  6. Generously spray the mixture onto the grimy areas.
  7. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  8. Wipe the sprayed areas with a damp cloth.
  9. Rinse the tray with warm water using your showerhead.

After these steps, your shower tray should already look much cleaner. But those pesky yellow streaks might still linger due to a mix of dirt and limescale.

Now, let’s learn how to tackle the limescale

Remove Limescale

Dealing with limescale can be tricky as it’s quite stubborn. But we’ve got a nifty, budget-friendly trick for you:

  1. Heat 100 ml of white vinegar in the microwave.
  2. Pour the warm vinegar into an empty bottle.
  3. Add 30 ml of lemon juice.
  4. Mix in half a cup of baking soda to form a thick paste.
  5. Ventilate your bathroom and ensure your shower tray is dry.
  6. Gently apply the paste to the limescale-affected areas, covering them completely.
  7. After two hours, rinse off the paste with your showerhead.
  8. If needed, scrub remaining deposits with a sponge.

Remove Rust Stains

Finally, let’s tackle those annoying rust stains. Even if they aren’t causing the yellowing, they certainly don’t look nice.

Here’s how to remove rust stains:

  1. Ensure your bathroom is well-ventilated.
  2. Generously pour white vinegar or lemon juice on the rusty spots.
  3. Let the liquid soak for two hours.
  4. Rinse the area with your showerhead.

If any rust remains, dry the tray with an old towel. Then, prepare the same paste from the limescale step (100 ml of white vinegar, 30 ml of lemon juice, half a cup of baking soda). Apply the paste to the remaining rust stains, cover them with the towel, and wait two to three hours before rinsing.

And voilà! Your shower tray should now be sparkling white and spotless.
