How to iron without an iron : 7 methods

Temps de lecture : 5 minutes environ

I think we can all agree that ironing is one of the more boring chores around the house. Sometimes, it seems the pile of clothes to iron just never ends. It becomes even worse when the iron breaks down and you’re left with stacks of t-shirts, dresses and blouses full of wrinkles and creases!

Luckily we’re here to help, and show you how to straighten out clothes without an iron, using some tried and tested methods! Once you’ve finished working your way through this list you may never want to invest in an iron again.

Wrinkle release sprays

These handy little sprays have everything you need to know about them in the name! Perfect for small creases, simply spray the area a couple of times, hang to dry and watch those wrinkles disappear right before your eyes! Who needs an iron, right?

They’re cheap and they even come in practical travel-sized bottles so you can take them on vacation, business trips or any place you’ll need a quick change of clothes!

Steam clothes in a hot shower

This is one of those classic methods for straightening out clothes without an iron, and for good reason! Hot steam is what naturally brings out creases in clothes, so using the shower if you don’t have access to an iron, is a great alternative.

To create the steam, close all windows and doors and run the shower very hot, just don’t burn yourself! Hang the clothes on the shower rail without getting wet, carry on with your daily routine and once you return you’ll be greeted by crease-free, toasty warm clothes!

Ironing clothes has its difficulties, especially when we are ironing delicate materials such as stain, for example. Nevertheless, few easy steps can ensure your best satin clothes are ironed to perfection.

 Use the trusty hair dryer

One of the quickest methods for ironing without an iron is using your faithful hair dryer! Once you’ve finished blow drying your beautiful head of hair, apply a sprinkle of water to the creased area of your clothes. Give some short, sharp blasts of hot air, moving the hair dryer back and forth evenly until the wrinkles have disappeared. Not only does it straighten out your clothes but it will also dry them at the same time!

It’s important not to hold the hair dryer too close to the fabric, we recommend leaving at least 2 inches and always moving the dryer around to distribute the heat.

Roll up like a sausage

This method can be a bit of fun and is easy to get the kids involved, but it’s also very effective!

  1. Firstly, lay clothes on a flat surface
  2. Spread any folds or creases out as much as possible
  3. Next, roll up the item as tightly as you can, just like a sausage!
  4. Leave the rolled-up clothes underneath a mattress or any other heavy equivalent for approximately 30 minutes

The mattress will act exactly like a clothes press, pushing out any creases, leaving your clothes wrinkle-free!

Throw some ice cubes in the tumble dryer

Ironing your clothes with no iron, but ice cubes instead?? It must be magic!

This one may seem a little odd, we admit, but it makes sense once you try it! Add your creased-up clothes and a couple of ice cubes into the dryer. As the dryer heats up, the ice cubes melt, creating steam which will de-wrinkle your clothes as they’re drying!

Use a hair straightener for collars

Yes, that’s right, another hair appliance that can also be used for your clothes! But it’s important to note that this doesn’t work on all items of clothes. The hot plates of straighteners are very handy for pressing creases in shirt collars. Ensure the plates are clean before starting and be extra careful not to hold them on for too long as it could cause the fabric to melt.

Use a clothes steamer

A clothes steamer is a great alternative to an iron and arguably more effective. Some great advantages compared to an iron

include:

  • You can hang your clothes and steam them at the same time
  • You don’t need an ironing board so it saves on space
  • Less likely to damage clothing unlike an iron that can cause burns or melt clothes
  • Quicker than an iron to heat up and remove creases

So, if you find yourself with a broken iron, or somewhere with no access to an iron, you can be relieved to know that there is always a solution! These unique methods are sure to help you tackle those awkward creases in any situation!
